StumbleUpon Twitter Experiment

What do you get when you cross two powerful social driven media sites? Let us find out in the 2008 Twitter StumbleUpon Experiment.

To find out if it is possible to get Twitter followers through the use of StumbleUpon and if so, how many reviews / thumbs up does it take till you get a noticeable increase in followers.

Get people to stumble review and/or thumbs up this twitter page to drive StumbleUpon visitors to the page.

Please stumble review or thumbs up this twitter page and if your feeling kind, blog about the experiment!

26/5/08 – Start of experiment with 306 followers + turned Twitter Auto Follow on by asking customer support.

27/5/08 – 327 (+26) Followers

28/5/08 – 338 (+11) Followers

29/5/08 – 346 (+8) Followers

30/5/08 – 360 (+15) Followers

3/6/08 – 403 (+11) Followers

Well after 9 days of running this experiment, I received 88 new followers so I guess it is possible to get some followers through the use of Stumble Upon however the certain number can not be exact.

I was pleasantly surprised to see 9 new followers on average, per day. Thank you everyone for helping out with this experiment. You may now want to read up on What is the best social media website? Digg, SU, Delicious, Reddit : or?

Interesting idea! How do you plan to keep it up while on vacation, though?

I have yet to sign up for a Twitter account, though with the TwitterFeed plugin that Vivien talked about, I might do it. I have an SU account, but unfortunately I’m not very active :( I always forget about it when looking at pages unless the author specifically asks for a submission!

This is a great idea. I’m on my iPhone right now so I’ll have to stumble this later. I must say I’m inspired by your post and the way you run your blog. Keep up the good work here. Cheers!

I will just keep it up by scheduling the posts and letting the guest authors reply to the comments and the community itself (I hope).
I use the TwitterFeed plugin however I had to turn it off because it posts your scheuduled articles to Twitter as well which is annoying as users can click on the link and there is nothing there (unless you are signed in as Admin).

I have gotten myself into a habit of thumbing up articles now however I find Digg a bit too many steps involved (and very slow for submitting and verifying).

So how does JCD look on a mobile I wonder? I turned off styling to see what it would look like and it didn’t turn out too bad.

Ew, it tweets scheduled posts? Well that wouldn’t work for me! All my posts are scheduled in advance. I set them up the night before to go live at 7a, PT. Thank you for that comment, Jacob. I would’ve been really frustrated to find that out later.

I’ll be sure to stop by and interact with the commentors on my guest article. And if you need a photo for my mini-bio, you can just use my Gravatar icon (same one as in facebook and all other social media accounts I have).

Now that I look into it, I am using a plugin for the updating called Twitter Updater not TwitterFeed. I will look into TwitterFeed now.

No need for the photo, I have got a short intro paragraph already :)

Why was it important to have auto follow on twitter for this experiment?

  • Jacob Cass

    Hi David,
I turned on auto follow so everyone can send direct messages to eachother, something that you can not do unless you are both following one another.

  • modemlooper

look around there are a few WP twitter plugins. Some have better options.
