Hey Jacob, mate you are doing a great job 🙂 I find it hard to keep up with you. I am (obviously, from my selection, I am novice web designer) and these appeal to me at present although I must say that web design has created new challenges for me in terms of logo design which I never envisaged doing so your site is always helpful. Great job – and if I get my other 3 assignments almost finished I will enter your other comp 😛

  5. Hi buddy,

You blog is a great resource and every posts just gets better and better. Though I have a suggestion about your designer interviews. Change the questions, and make them more specific and ralated to the person being interviewed. That will break the monotony and will also make them more interesting…Otherwise all jsut too good…

My list of top 5 are:

    1. Creativity
    2. My Design Process

    For least favorite:
    6. Tutorials.

I like your tutorials, but there are plenty of sites for that sort of thing. I like your blog for your commitment to the art and craft of Design. Plus your site is a great place to find inspriation and news about the goings on in the world of Design. I don’t know if you need to spend time on crafting tutorials, since your site is so content rich already.

One thing I would like to see is more case studies. How you came up with an idea and executed it. Like your great post on creating the beer label.

    Keep up the great work.

Also, I’d really love it if you made the design a bit less cluttered, more space (esp between sidebars and content), and perhaps removing the left column altogether. too many blogs these days have too little space for comments. as an example look at my blog and the space between content column and text.

another point would be to enlarge the font, maybe change the typeface as well, it’s all too banal, take a look at the adobe blog to see what i mean by different…

other than that, i’d say to do away with the about section on the left, you have a link under the photo so it’s pretty unnecessary.

and my almost final point is to increase space between top menu items, increase their weight, and maybe add some separation between them.

as for my final point, writing a comment in gray is highly annoying, it poses contrast problems, and is not pleasant on the eye… please change it to black…

hope you enjoyed my comments, for more you can reach me on twitter and you also have my email

  48. Thank you everyone for your feedback, I really do appreciate it! I have announced the winner in the post above.

I will also take your other suggestions into consideration. I was also surprised by how often my design process was in the top 5 favourite posts… same with web design as I don’t often post much on web design so I will try to do more on this also.

We post about similar aspects I suppose but other than that our blogs are quite different… but he was the man that made me get into blogging so I do have to thank him for that!

  49. #1 – My Design Process
    #2 – Inspiration
    #3 – Web Design
    #4 – Tutorials
    #5 – Blogging Tips & Resources

I really do think that your design processes are a vital part of your blog, and its success so would love to see more.

  50. (1) Creativity (with a name like Kooji Creative, it had to be our No 1 really didn’t it?)

    (2) Inspiration (It’s one of our main reasons for browsing the web)

    (3) Tutorials/ Knowledge Transfer (Lifelong Learning is a priority for us)

    (4) The Online Design Community (Networking with other creatives is incredibly powerful)

    (5) Giveaways & Competitions (Let’s be honest if we hadn’t spotted this post with a freebie book we wouldn’t have been as inclined to post feedback 😀 )

    (6) Anything Programming related (Don’t get me wrong, without programming our stuff wouldn’t work, but we’re more interested in the design/ the front-end – CSS, XHTML, SEO, – all these things are important, but we prefer to focus on the design side)

FEEDBACK – This is a wonderful resource Jacob, and it’s where we began our search for online design info (we found you through your free ebook). There are links that branch out across a network of designers, blogs and social media sites – it’s fantastic.

It’d be great if you could add more visuals and interactivity to your website (flash is good for this and it’s less confining). People tend to skim read and images are read faster than words. Video content would be a great addition – Maybe something showing how you work?

One last point – Digital art is incredible and a superb result of today’s creative technologies – but it’s important to remember that it’s still just one of many tools available to us, and that we must always acknowledge how it all began: with a pencil, with paint and a canvas or a stick on a cave wall. Maybe a post about the Root’s of Creativity would be beneficial for all?

    Thanks for JCD 🙂

Gah! Ran out of room for stuff I like! Guest articles are okay; they’re a great way to keep things going when you’re on holidays, but you build up a rapport with your readers, not just your blog with its readers, but you. I don’t always value guest posts as much, unless they’re super good!

Competitions are cool too, although you don’t want that to be all the blog does as well!

  54. You’re welcome Megan, I have sent you a message in regards to your post address, etc.

I still am yet to drop your other book off at your place but it is coming 😛 Thanks for the feedback!

  56. Hi, I know I’m late but its better to be late then never. if I’ve to rank your categories then I’ll rank them in this way & I want a new category which will be my most favorite one.

    1. Re-Design Contest.
I want to a regular contest based on My Design Contest in which all brief are given including copy, logo, sizes etc. And then participants should be asked to design/re-design any assignment according to your creativity. The best entry will be no.1 and awarded.

  58. Hi Jacob-

I know that I’m posting after the contest but I’m so new at your site! Anyway, I would really like to see an article on copyright and all that good stuff. In particular, what do you do and how do you deal with knowing that once you post your work/portfolio online, anyone can pretty much view it/take it and use it as their own?

  59. 1. Tutorials (1st Fav Post)
    2. Web Design (2nd Fav Post)
    3. My Design Process (3rd Fav Post – meaning your design process so that we all can learn from you!)
    4. Inspiration (4th Fav Post – everyone needs inspiration)
    5. Tips For Design Students (5th Fav Post – because we all have to start somewhere and you can always learn something new!)

    6. Photography (Least Fav Post – I like photography but I’m not as into it as others except when I use them in my design. But, regardless, I still like seeing what’s out there.)

    7. I’d like to see more Web Design basics or advance tips and tricks (especially with CSS tutorials) – only because I’m more apt to read up on that material based on the work I’m in now.

thanks so much for such a great site with loads of useful info!! 🙂
