The Top 10+ Best Tablets with Keyboards in 2023

1. iPad Pro 12.9 M2 (Editor’s Choice)

iPad Pro 12.9 M2 - Best Tablets with Keyboard
iPad Pro 12.9 M2. Image Credits: Apple / Amazon.

The best tablet with a keyboard overall

CPU: Apple M2 | RAM: 8GB/16GB | Screen: 12.9‑inch Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion technology and True Tone | Storage: 128GB/256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB | OS: iPadOS 16

As of 2023, the iPad Pro 12.9 M2 is still Apple’s ultimate tablet, almost as strong as a laptop because of the M2 chip. It is overkill because no task can tax the previous M1 iPad Pro. However, we think this version of the iPad is future-proof and all the more worth the investment.

Despite the similarity to its predecessor, this iPad is thin and lightweight, with many handy features. In our experience, it has a Face ID, amazing cameras, and support for Apple accessories. If there’s any downside to this product, we think it’s the price that can be very hefty for some consumers.

If you are a graphic designer, make sure to check out our blog on the best iPad for graphic design.

Pros

Cons

➕ High-quality and clear LED screen ➖ Expensive
➕ Top-tier CPU

2. Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

The best Samsung tablet with a keyboard

CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus | RAM: 6GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 8GB+512GB | Screen: 12.4″ Super AMOLED, 120Hz | Storage: Up to 1TB microSD card | OS: Android OS

Hands down the best digitizing tablet that Samsung produces, the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus is a real contender to the crown that the iPad Pro from Apple wears. With a 12.4-inch Super AMOLED screen and 120Hz refresh rate, everything you put on it will look beautiful.

Much like the Galaxy Tab S6, the S7 Plus connects a keyboard magnetically through a smart connector. While it’s not necessary to use the tablet and can be expensive, adding the keyboard can make the overall experience of using the S7 Plus even better.

Here are some other Samsung tablets that you might find interesting.

Pros

Cons

➕ Beautiful OLED screen ➖ Android app store can be lacking
➕ Premium design ➖ Expensive

3. iPad Air

Apple iPad Air - Best Tablets with Keyboard

The best value tablet with a keyboard

CPU: Apple M1 | RAM: 8Gb | Screen: Liquid Retina, 10.9-inch (diagonal) LED‑backlit Multi‑Touch | Storage: 64GB/256GB | OS: iPadOS

If you’re looking for an iPad Pro alternative, we recommend the Apple iPad Air. It doesn’t carry all of the iPad Pro’s features but is cheaper. It uses an Apple M1 chipset almost on par with the M2 version. It’s also compatible with the same Apple accessories as Pro.

We found that it has a slightly smaller display than Pro and only supports 60 Hz, not 120 Hz. That’s why our Apple Pencil 2 didn’t react as smoothly with Air compared to Pro. Instead of a Face ID, we have a Touch ID fingerprint scanner built-in.

While it only has up to 256 GB of internal storage, its performance is even better than Galaxy Tab S8.

Also, see our blog on the best iPad alternatives.

Pros

Cons

➕ Powerful CPU ➖ Limited features compared to iPad Pro
➕ Clear display

4. RCA Viking Pro 2-in-1 Tablet

RCA Viking Pro 2-in-1 Tablet

The best budget-friendly tablet with a keyboard

CPU: 1.4GHz MediaTek MT8127 Quad Core | Graphics: Intel | RAM: ‎1 GB DDR_SDRAM | Screen: 10.1-inch display | Storage: 32GB | OS: Android 5.0 Lollipop

A big misconception about tablets that have a keyboard is either that they are too expensive or don’t have the specs to handle the things you need to do.

Thankfully, the Viking Pro 2-in-1 Tablet from RCA may not have many of the advanced features that the other choices on our list may have but the tablet is one of the best cheap tablets with a keyboard.

While the six hours of battery life leaves more to be desired, the most important factor is its cost with 32GB of built-in memory that’s expandable to 128GB and 1GB of RAM is a great alternative to many of the expensive Android tablets on the market.

Pros

Cons

➕ Great price ➖ Battery life could be better
➕ Storage expandable up to 128GB

6. Microsoft Surface Book 3

Surface Book 3
Surface Book 3. Image credit: Microsoft/Amazon.

The best premium tablet with a keyboard

CPU: 10th-gen Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q Design | RAM: 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB | Screen: 13.5-inch 3000 x 2000 PixelSense – 15-inch 3240 x 2160 PixelSense display | Storage: 256GB – 2TB PCIe SSD | OS: Windows 10 Home

From the outside, the Surface Book 3 from Microsoft is a beautifully designed laptop that can do amazing things, and then you realize you can detach the screen and you also have a tablet, making this one of the best tablets with a detachable keyboard.

Unlike a lot of the options on our list, the Surface Book 3 comes with a keyboard, and the immaculate screen that it provides will give you that premium feel.

While it comes with a good amount of RAM and storage, the trackpad is a bit tiny and may cause you to look into a wireless mouse.

Pros

Cons

➕ Comfortable keyboard

While having a tablet that might help you creates incredible works of art, can it hold up to a drop off your desk without issues? No? Then you should check out the Toughbook CF-33 from Panasonic.

While it can be sold with or without the keyboard, we recommend getting the keyboard as it can provide a great experience.

Typically used by the military or law enforcement, the Toughbook is not cheap by any means but provides you with a high-quality display that can stand up to shocks, drops, humidity, and extreme temperatures.

If you’re looking for a laptop that can stand up to just about anything, the Toughbook CF-33 is for you.

The best all-in-one tablet with a keyboard

Processor: Dual-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i3 / Quad-core 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel® UHD Graphics / ntel® Iris™ Plus Graphics | RAM: 4GB / 8GB / 16GB | Storage: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB | Screen: 10.5-inch | OS: Window 10 Home

The Surface Go 2’s bigger brother, the Surface Pro 7 has taken great steps to improve some of the issues that its predecessor, the Surface Pro 6 had.

While the battery life has been improved to an entire workday, it could still be better.

Packaged with the keyboard and stylus, which many of the other options on our list are not, makes it even easier to be up and running right out of the box.

With a lightweight design, the Surface Pro 7 is a great option for anybody who wants to work outside the office.

Cons

11. Galaxy Tab S8

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8. Image Credits: Samsung / Amazon

The best tablet with a keyboard with big screen

CPU: Qualcomm 2.99 GHz Snapdragon | RAM: 8GB | Storage: 128GB | OS: Android OS

We’re not exaggerating when we say that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 aims to top Apple’s iPad Pro.

It has a big screen and, in its box, is an S Pen stylus, while you still need to buy the Apple Pencil separately. And its screen is big and clear enough to watch movies or create art.

It uses a powerful chipset and ultra-wide cameras that can record 4K videos with ease. We have plenty of storage because you can use an SD card to supplement its 128GB.

The downsides to this amazing tablet are its size and OS. It’s not exactly portable, and Android can be unwieldy as a tablet’s OS.

However, if you’re an Android fan and are not on a budget, we highly recommend the Galaxy Tab S8.

Cons

How to choose the right tablet and keyboard combo

Portability

For many, the main reason to have a tablet with a keyboard is the portability that it offers. A traditional laptop, even in its slimmest design, can still be bulky and at times, cumbersome. A tablet with a keyboard can weigh no more than the tablet itself, making it incredibly portable.

Features

The features that manufacturers can tack onto the keyboards for laptops can be a wishlist of features. From backlit keys to responsive keys, adding these features just makes the overall experience that much better.

Connectivity

Does your keyboard have good connectivity? In most cases, you choose a wireless keyboard. Some keyboards are connected via Bluetooth and some come with a sort of dock in which the tablet has to be placed. Make sure the connectivity of your keyboard is compatible with all the devices that you want to connect. Make a better choice according to your needs.

Cost

While we are talking about a peripheral for a tablet when compared to the overall cost of the tablet, the cost of a separate keyboard is a minimal expense. You can do great things with any of the tablets on our list, having an added keyboard just opens new doors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference in a tablet and a Chromebook?

Some Chromebooks have touchscreens, but the majority have built-in keyboards and trackpads, just like a traditional laptop. Whereas, tablets are only intended to have a touchscreen. Although, if you prefer an external keyboard, you can attach one.

Can I set up wireless printing with my tablet?

Whether you use Android or Apple, you can set up wireless printing. Apple has AirPrint for your iPad, and you can use Google Cloud Print for Android. Bluetooth options are possible for Apple and Android tablets as well.
