Overall Best Samsung Drawing Tablet

Storage: 512 GB | Screen Size: 14.6 Inches | Processor: Snapdragon 8 Generation | RAM: 12 GB

I’ve explored numerous tablets, but the SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra captivates me with its blend of technological sophistication and artistic utility. I chose to purchase and review it not just for its specifications on paper but for the way it transforms my artistic visions into vibrant realities.

The 14.6″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display of the Tab S9 Ultra is a marvel. With a resolution of 2960 x 1848 pixels, it offers a vivid and sharp canvas that is essential for detailed artwork. It renders colors beautifully, and the contrast levels are ideal for nuanced shading in digital paintings.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip ensures that all my drawing applications run smoothly. Whether I’m working on complex layers in Adobe Fresco or rendering 3D models, the tablet keeps up without any hiccups. The 12 GB memory further aids in this seamless performance, making multitasking between different art applications a breeze.

Its minimalistic design is not just about looks; the sleek Armor Aluminum frame makes it durable. As someone who often sketches outdoors, the IP68 rating for water and dust resistance has been extremely beneficial for protecting my device in various environments.

“Water resistance isn’t something you’ll find on any iPad, but all three Tab S9 models have it.” [Dan Seifert, TheVerge]

With long battery life, I can work for extended periods without worrying about frequent recharging. Plus, the 256GB storage capacity means I never have to compromise on saving my high-resolution artwork.

However, this device has some limitations. The tablet’s large footprint can be a bit unwieldy. However, I’ve found that using a dedicated tablet stand helps immensely. Also, the price point is on the higher side, but for a professional artist, it’s an investment in your craft.

2. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S8+ — Best Value Samsung Drawing Tablet

Best Samsung Art Tablet with Pen for Reasonable Price Point

Storage: 128 GB | RAM: 8 GB | Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon SM8450 | Screen Size: 12.4 Inches

The Galaxy Tab S8+ strikes a perfect balance of functionality and value, making it a superb choice for artists seeking a reliable digital canvas without breaking the bank.

The key highlight of the Galaxy Tab S8+ is its large 12.4-inch sAMOLED screen, boasting a resolution of 2800 x 1752 pixels. This feature allowed for precise color selection and detailed work while I was creating my digital masterpieces. The vibrant display brought every stroke and hue to life with stunning clarity.

Equally impressive was the pen included. S Pen, which remarkably enhanced my drawing experience. Its responsiveness and natural feel, akin to a real pen, allowed for a diverse range of brush strokes and techniques. This tablet didn’t just recognize my input; it anticipated and adapted to it, making the digital canvas feel as intuitive as paper.

Performance-wise, the Galaxy Tab S8+ didn’t disappoint. Powered by an upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and equipped with a 128GB storage capacity, it effortlessly handled demanding drawing applications and multitasking.

Moreover, for those who integrate photography into their art, the tablet’s ultra-wide camera, capable of recording in 4K, was a significant advantage. It delivered excellent photo quality and video clarity, perfect for capturing real-life inspirations for digital artworks.

However, no device is without its drawbacks. The wider aspect ratio of the Galaxy Tab S8+ posed a challenge, especially for portrait-oriented works. But I easily mitigated this by adjusting the tablet’s orientation or canvas settings within the drawing app.

Another minor issue was the tablet’s haptic feedback, which felt less premium compared to higher-end models. But for an artist focused on screen interaction and pen precision, this is a negligible concern.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ is perfect for artists seeking a harmonious blend of a high-quality display, responsive drawing tools, and robust performance at a reasonable price point.

PROS CONS
➕ Large 12.4-inch sAMOLED screen with high resolution. ➖ The wider aspect ratio might require some adjustment in use.
➕ The S Pen offers a realistic and responsive drawing experience. ➖ Haptic feedback may feel less refined.
➕ Strong performance with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset and 128GB storage.
➕ High-quality camera for capturing references or creative photography.
➕ Excellent value for a premium drawing tablet.

3. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S7+ Plus — Best Samsung Tablet for Sketching

Best Samsung Sketch Tablet

Storage: 128 GB | RAM: 6 GB | Processor: Qualcomm | Screen Size: 12.4 Inches

sponsored message

The Galaxy Tab S7+ Plus tablet, in my opinion, stands out as an excellent choice for artists, particularly for those focused on sketching. Its blend of PC-like performance with the portability of a tablet makes it a versatile tool for artists on the go.

The 12.4-inch edge-to-edge display is a significant feature that makes the Galaxy Tab S7+ Plus ideal for sketching. With a resolution of 2800 x 1752 pixels, the clarity and color accuracy are exceptional. As someone who sketches regularly, I find this large screen provides ample space for detailed work, and the TFT LCD technology ensures that colors are vibrant and true-to-life.

The redesigned S Pen, included with the tablet, is another standout feature. With its 9ms pen latency, it closely mimics the experience of sketching with a traditional pen on paper. This has made a noticeable difference in my sketching, allowing for fluid, natural strokes, and a more intuitive drawing experience.

In terms of performance, the Tab S7+ Plus doesn’t disappoint. Its ability to transform into a PC-like experience with DeX mode, especially when paired with the optional keyboard (sold separately), is impressive. This feature has been invaluable for me when I need to switch between sketching and other tasks like emailing or document editing.

However, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The S Pen can easily become dislodged, which can be a concern for artists who frequently move around with their tablet. A simple solution is to invest in a secure carrying case with a dedicated slot for the S Pen.

Additionally, the optional Book Cover Keyboard Case, which adds to the PC-like experience, feels somewhat flimsy. A sturdier, third-party book cover keyboard case could be a better option for those who type extensively.

Despite minor drawbacks, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ Plus, with its large, vivid display, responsive S Pen, and versatile DeX mode, offers a rich sketching experience for artists.

PROS CONS
➕ Large, vibrant 12.4-inch display ideal for detailed sketching. ➖ S Pen can become dislodged, requiring careful handling.
➕ Low-latency S Pen offers a natural and responsive drawing experience. ➖ The optional keyboard case may not meet the durability needs of heavy users.
➕ DeX mode transforms the tablet into a PC-like experience.
➕ Fast-charging USB-C port and long battery life.

Best Samsung Tablet for Graphic Design

Storage: 512 GB | Screen Size: 12.4 Inches | RAM: 12GB | Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Having used the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ Plus for various graphic design projects, I found it to be a remarkably powerful tool, tailored to the needs of design professionals like myself.

For starters, I was sold by its large 12.4-inch AMOLED screen, offering a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. This feature provides a vibrant and crisp display essential for color accuracy and intricate detailing. The clarity and color reproduction on this screen made it easier to fine-tune designs, ensuring that what I saw on the screen was what I got in print or digital output.

The Vision Booster feature further enhanced my experience by automatically adjusting the screen’s brightness and contrast, making it comfortable to work even in varied lighting conditions.

The heart of the Tab S9+ Plus is its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which I found to be impressively powerful. This meant no more frustrating lags or crashes, even when running demanding graphic design software. Additionally, the Wi-Fi 6E connectivity was a boon, allowing me to smoothly stream, download, and share large design files without any hitches.

Another aspect where the Tab S9+ Plus shone was its S Pen. I frequently used it for sketching initial concepts and detailed illustrations. The pen’s responsiveness and the natural feel it offered were akin to sketching with a traditional pen, but with the added benefits of digital technology.

The tablet’s design, featuring a sleek Armor Aluminum frame, and its IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, assured me of its durability, a necessary trait given the often mobile and dynamic nature of my work. The DeX Mode was another feature I found invaluable, as it provided a PC-like experience that greatly enhanced my productivity.

However, the tablet had some minor limitations. The absence of a headphone jack was initially a concern, as I often rely on wired audio for editing or while  playing games or working in public spaces. I resorted to using Bluetooth headphones, which, although a slight adjustment, worked well in the end. Additionally, the inability to lock a high refresh rate was a minor inconvenience but did not majorly impede my workflow.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ Plus exceptional display, powerful processing capabilities, intuitive S Pen, and robust design make it a top choice for graphic designers.

PROS CONS
➕ Large, high-resolution AMOLED screen perfect for design work. ➖ No headphone jack, requiring wireless devices or adapter solutions.
➕ Powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor for smooth operation. ➖ Inability to lock high refresh rate.
➕ S Pen offers precise and natural drawing experience. ➖ Fingerprint reader placement could be more convenient.
➕ Durable design with IP68 dust and water resistance.
➕ DeX Mode for a desktop-like experience.

5. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra — Best Samsung Tablet for Animation

Best Samsung Tablet for Digital Art and Animation

Storage: 128 GB | RAM: 8 GB | Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SM8450 (8-core) | Screen Size: 14.6 Inches

Next on my list, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, while perfect for a variety of digital drawing tasks, really stands out as an animation tablet. Its capabilities as a tool for animators are immense, and here’s why my experience with it has been like:

To begin with, its expansive 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display offers a resolution of 2960 x 1848 pixels. This large screen was essential for my animation work, providing ample space for detailed and color-rich animations. The clarity and depth of color on this display enhanced the precision and vibrancy of my work, allowing for nuanced and high-quality animation output.

Equipped with the Snapdragon 888 Gen 1 processor, along with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, the tablet handled demanding animation software with ease. The 10880mAh battery further ensured that my work wasn’t interrupted, offering extended periods of productivity without the need for frequent recharging.

The inclusion of the pen included S Pen was a significant benefit. Its precision and responsiveness allowed for fluid sketching and detailed editing, which are crucial in the animation process. The natural feel of the pen on the screen made the transition to digital animation more intuitive and engaging.

In addition to its creative capabilities, the tablet’s camera setup, capable of recording in UHD 4K, proved useful for watching videos and capturing real-life references, adding another layer of realism to my animations.

However, there are a couple of considerations to keep in mind. The need for an additional $350 keyboard to fully utilize the tablet’s capabilities is a notable investment. While this purchase may initially seem like a significant outlay, the keyboard adds considerable value. The tablet’s size, while excellent for detailed work, does impact its portability. A protective case with a built-in stand helped to manage and address this issue effectively.

Summing up, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra stands as a robust choice for professional animators. While it requires some additional investment and consideration for its size, the benefits it offers in terms of display quality, performance, and the utility of the S Pen make it a highly suitable device for animation.

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a massive, powerful tablet that wants to replace your laptop.” [Tony Polanco, Tom’s Guide]

PROS CONS
➕ Large 14.6-inch Super AMOLED screen ideal for detailed animation work. ➖ Additional cost for the keyboard to maximize its potential.
➕ Powerful Snapdragon 888 Gen 1 processor with 8GB RAM for smooth software performance. ➖ The wide form factor might affect portability.
➕ S Pen offers a natural and precise drawing experience.
➕ Strong camera capabilities for capturing high-quality references.
➕ Ample battery life for extended work sessions.

6. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A8 — Best Portable Samsung Tablet

SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A8

Best Portable Samsung Drawing Tablet

Storage: 32 GB | RAM: 3 GB | Processor: ARM Cortex A53 | Screen Size: 10.5 Inches

The Galaxy Tab A8, with its tailored features, not only strikes a perfect balance between functionality and affordability but also portability. I’ve had this little tech marvel on many of my travels and site works.

For starters, its 10.5-inch LCD screen was consistent with the excellent display quality that is characteristic of Samsung laptops, tablets, and phones. The 1920 x 1200 pixels screen resolution really popped my artwork with clarity and vibrancy. The display size was ample for sketching and digital painting, allowing for a decent level of detail and color accuracy.

Performance-wise, the tablet’s upgraded chipset and expandable storage option (up to 128GB) were more than adequate for my needs. The tablet handled a variety of drawing applications smoothly, which is vital for artists who cannot afford interruptions in their creative flow.

I particularly loved the tablet’s long-lasting battery life, which allowed me to work for extended periods without the need for frequent recharging. However, I did notice the slower 15W charging speed, which required some planning around work schedules to ensure the device was always at full charge and ready for use.

But on the flip side, the base model’s RAM and storage might feel restrictive for more complex, high-resolution projects. I often relied on external storage solutions to manage larger files. Additionally, the tablet’s camera quality wasn’t sufficient for capturing high-quality reference images.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 solidifies its position as a suitable option for artists, particularly those at the beginning stages of their digital art journey or needing a secondary, more portable device.

PROS CONS
➕ Adequate 10.5-inch LCD screen suitable for drawing. ➖ Slow 15W charging could be inconvenient.
➕ Upgraded chipset capable of handling drawing applications. ➖ Limited base model RAM and storage may restrict heavy usage.
➕ Long-lasting battery life for extended creative sessions. ➖ Weak camera capabilities for high-quality reference images.
➕ Galaxy ecosystem connectivity enhances workflow.
➕ Expandable storage options.

7. SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 FE — Samsung Tablet with Long Lasting Battery

SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 FE
SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Image credit: Amazon

Best Samsung Drawing Tablet with Large Battery Life

Storage: 128 GB | RAM: 6 GB | Processor: Snapdragon 600 Series | Screen Size: 10.9 inches

I was drawn to the Galaxy Tab S9 FE for its blend of features that cater specifically to artists. Its large 10.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels provides ample space for drawing and sketching. While using it, the clarity and crispness of the display truly brought my digital artwork to life with vibrant colors and detailed visuals.

Under the hood, the tablet’s latest Exynos chipset generally delivered smooth performance. However, I did experience occasional stutters when handling more complex, high-resolution projects.

The included S Pen offered a level of precision and natural feel that closely mimicked traditional drawing tools. Its responsiveness greatly enhanced my creative process, making the transition between ideas and digital execution almost effortless.

Another standout feature was the tablet’s long-lasting battery life, a crucial aspect for artists who, like me, often find themselves engrossed in long creative sessions. The ability to work uninterrupted for extended periods without worrying about recharging was a significant advantage. The fast charging capability was also appreciated, though it’s worth noting that it requires a separate 45W charger.

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE’s IP68 water and dust-resistant rating provided an added layer of durability, which was reassuring for someone who frequently works in different environments. The multitasking capabilities of the tablet were also beneficial, allowing me to easily reference materials on the same screen while drawing.

However, the tablet wasn’t without its bumps and drawbacks. The occasional performance stutter required me to manage my app usage carefully, ensuring that I wasn’t overloading the tablet’s capabilities. Additionally, the fingerprint sensor was sometimes less responsive than I would have liked, leading me to rely on alternative unlocking and payment methods such as a pattern or PIN.

In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is a commendable choice for artists. Its combination of a large, high-resolution screen, precise S Pen, and long battery life, despite some minor performance and sensor issues, makes it a practical and efficient tool for drawing and creative work.

PROS CONS
➕ Large, high-resolution screen ideal for drawing. ➖ Occasional performance stutters under intensive use.
➕ S Pen offers precise and natural drawing experience. ➖ Finicky fingerprint sensor can be less responsive.
➕ Long-lasting battery life with fast charging capabilities.
➕ Capable of multitasking for efficient workflow.
➕ Water- and dust-resistant, adding to its durability.

The Galaxy Tab S9 not only enhanced my creativity but also fit seamlessly into my professional workflow. And while it is great choice for most kinds of digital art, I found it especially suitable for my illustration projects.

During my time with this tablet, I was particularly impressed by its 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. Working on this screen was a delight; it offered just the right balance of space and portability, making it ideal for both detailed studio work and sketches on the go.

The heart of the Galaxy Tab S9 – its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor – handled my illustration software with an ease that was refreshing. As someone who juggles multiple apps and intricate designs, I found this power indispensable.

The S Pen was equally impressive, which quickly became an extension of my hand. Its precision and natural feel bridged the gap between traditional and digital art, allowing for a smooth flow of creativity.

Its IP68 water- and dust-resistant rating was another feature that I found reassuring. Working across various environments, I needed a device that could withstand the rigors of a mobile lifestyle, and the Galaxy Tab S9 stood up to the challenge.

Apart from that, the Wi-Fi 6E connectivity really came in handy for me. It ensured smooth operations and fast downloads, which was crucial when working with large amounts of files and cloud-based resources.

I also found myself frequently relying on the DeX Mode, especially when multitasking. This PC-like experience allowed me to seamlessly switch between drawing, emailing, and other tasks, enhancing my productivity without compromising the quality of my work.

However, my experience wasn’t without its quirks. The software occasionally showed minor glitches, but keeping the system updated and optimized helped mitigate these issues. The thicker bezels, although noticeable, didn’t detract significantly from my drawing experience. They were a small trade-off for the tablet’s overall performance and utility.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 offers a blend of a high-quality display, robust performance, and user-friendly features. Despite some minor drawbacks, makes it a practical and efficient tool for illustrators.

Finding a device that balances affordability with capability can be difficult. This is where the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite shines with its hard-to-find blend of cost-effectiveness and functionality in an affordable tablet.

The tablet’s compact 8.7-inch screen, with a resolution of 1340 x 800 pixels, while not the highest on the market, offers a decent canvas for drawing. During my usage, I found this screen size to be adequately spacious for sketching and basic illustrations, especially when on the move. The tablet’s expandable storage up to 1TB was a significant advantage, allowing me to store a multitude of sketches and art resources without worrying about running out of space.

Battery life is another strong point of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. Its long-lasting battery coupled with fast charging meant that I could spend more time creating and less time tethered to a power outlet. The Multi-Device Experience feature, thanks to Samsung’s One UI technology, further enhanced my workflow, allowing seamless transition of work between my phone and tablet.

However, the device does have its limitations. The performance, while adequate for basic drawing tasks, might not suffice for heavy-duty graphic applications or complex digital art projects. Additionally, the speakers can be tinny at high volumes, and the camera quality is not the best, which could be a drawback for artists who rely on capturing high-quality reference images.

Despite these drawbacks, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite presents itself as a budget-friendly choice for artists, especially those just beginning their digital art journey or needing a secondary, more portable device for drawing. While it may not cater to the demands of high-end professional work, its portability, expandable storage, and sufficient performance for basic drawing tasks make it a worthy consideration.

The Ultimate Buying Guide for Samsung Tablets: Perfect for Drawing

I’ve crafted this guide with my experiences and insights to help you find the perfect Samsung tablet for your drawing needs. Let’s dive in!

🖌️ Display Quality

For any form of digital art or design, the display is king. Look for a Samsung tablet with a high-resolution, AMOLED display like the SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. You want vibrant colors and crisp clarity, especially for tasks like photo editing or 3D modeling.

🔋 Battery Life

Long hours of work? You need a tablet that can keep up. Aim for a model with a battery life that lasts through your longest sessions, so you’re not constantly tethered to a charger. The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 FE comes with a long-lasting battery life.

🚀 Performance Power

A lagging tablet can break your creative flow. For high-end drawing and designing tasks, a robust processor and ample RAM (think 6GB or more) are must-haves. The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra comes with the most powerful processor and packs plenty of RAM.

📝 Stylus Responsiveness

If drawing or designing is your game, a stylus is your best friend. Make sure the tablet is compatible with a high-quality stylus, offering precision and pressure sensitivity. The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S8+ comes with an included S pen that works great for drawing and sketching.

💾 Storage and Expandability

High-resolution files eat up space fast. Opt for a tablet with generous built-in storage or one that supports expandable storage. The SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A7 Lite comes with a 1TB storage that’s more than enough for drawing needs.

🛠️ Build Quality and Durability

You want a tablet that can withstand the rigors of your creative process, especially if you’re often on the move. The sleek Armor Aluminum frame and IP68 rating of the SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab S9+ Plus make it a robust device for all kinds of working environments.

🌍 Portability and Size

Consider how you’ll use your tablet. Need something for on-the-go? A lighter, more compact model like the SAMSUNG Galaxy Tab A8 might be your pick. If you’re mostly stationary, a larger screen could be more beneficial.
